Parador de Monforte

Spain – Galicia – Lugo – Monforte de Lemos
Historic palace and monastery
4-star
Perched on the highest point of the small Galician town of Monforte de Lemos, to the southeast of Santiago and surrounded by the rural area known as Ribeira Sacra, is a complex of impressive historic buildings: a medieval keep, the 16th-century Condes de Lemos Palace, and the 17th-century monastery of San Vicente del Pino. The Parador de Monforte occupies both the palace and the neoclassical monastery buildings, the latter incorporating a magnificent arcaded courtyard, and the former including three splendid function rooms and a banqueting room with a capacity for 300 people. The Parador has a gym, sauna and outdoor poor, plus facilities for the disabled, and there is a golf course only 3 km away. The restaurant specializes in the best of Galician cuisine, including such dishes as brochettes of steak in red wine sauce, and cod with braised onions.
