Parador de Verín

Spain – Galicia – Ourense – Verín
Traditional Galician manor house
3-star
Located 2 km from the Galician town of Verín and close to Portuguese border, the Parador de Verín stands next to the impressive Monterrei Castle, and has wonderful panoramic views over the town and the surrounding vineyards. Verín is noted for its unusual medieval-style Carnival, during which masked figures with bells tied to their waists run through the streets brandishing whips. The Parador itself has an impressive castellated stone tower, and the public rooms have a warm, traditional atmosphere with wooden ceilings, pillars and chandeliers. There is a children’s play area and a swimming pool in the garden. Typical Galician dishes on the menu at the restaurant include Merluza de Pincho a la Gallega (hake in a sauce of garlic, olive oil and paprika), Caldo Gallego (a stew of beans, meat and vegetable) and Filloas (crêpes with cream and eau de vie).
In line with their policy of continuous improvement, Paradores de Turismo de España advise that this Parador will be closed from 14th December 2009 until 4th February 2010
