Parador de Ferrol

Spain – Galicia – La Coruña – Ferrol

Galician mansion

3-star

The historic naval port of Ferrol – the birthplace of the dictator Francisco Franco – is located in the far northwest of Spain, across the bay of the Ría de Betanzas from La Coruña. Among the buildings worth visiting are the castle of San Felipe, the cathedral, and the Church of San Francisco. The Parador de Ferrol stands in the heart of the town, and is housed in an elegant mansion, whose façade combines stonework, plaster and glazed galleries. There is an appropriately nautical theme in the décor of the public rooms and spaces, with displays of old maps, charts and navigational instruments. The bedrooms are spacious and some have views over the port. Recommended Galician dishes on offer in the restaurant include Pulpo a la mugardesa (octopus sautéed with onion and peppers), Sopa Ferrolana (local seafood soup), and another Ferrol speciality, chestnut cake.
